2nd September 2019 - Enspire Solutions completed a Human Survivability Analysis for a multistorey building complex. While the response of structural elements and building components to blast loads are relatively understood, quantifying the vulnerability of building occupants can result in contradicting conclusions while analysing the same case with different international codes. In this project, the client has defined an acceptable residual risk following an attack as a function of the number of casualties. Therefore, the design of the protective measures needs to be based on the Survivability Analysis for each case. The project included the analysis of all existing methodologies to determine the human survivability and come up with an appropriate methodology adequate for this specific site and threats. Understanding and applying the appropriate methodology to each case analysed will result in cost optimization of the protective solution and will ensure the survivability of the occupants.
